I thought so too! I was pleasantly surprised at the choice of name. ^_^
I met her the next day and she had already managed to become a cutie! No small feat, since most newborns look, well, un-cute and unnerving to me--as if "newborn" and "baby" were two very separate things. She has already achieved "baby", so good for her!
Was she perhaps delivered by caesarian? It's being crushed during the birth that makes babies look so red and mis-shapen. (I have cousins who adhered to the trend of sending out pictures taken of their newborns, and most were exceedingly unphotogenic to say the least, until some time had passed. After a few days they were normal babies, and often quite cute, but initially they were all purple and squashed looking. In contrast the ones who were born via caesarian looked like themselves from the start.)
She was in fact born by c-section, but apparently she also had something of a misshapen head for a bit from having been in the birth canal for a while before they decided to do the c-section. It's her face, though...she already has the cuteness that it takes most babies at least a month to achieve. Loads of people around me have had babies in the past couple of years, and so I've seen plenty of un-cute two-week-old babies. They look kind of like aliens to me, and while everyone else coos over how cute they are, I just try not to focus on the weird face and just be fascinated at the tininess of the fingers and toes. ^_^;
Heh. You know I have no interest in having children, so my opinion is biased from the start, but I don't find infants particularly cute normally. When some of the little ones start to toddle, or the first two or three years is when I find children most affecting, but I only really like them on an individual level once they've reached the age of reason. In addition to family and friends with children, there are a number of nice children in my neighborhood, who ask questions about the dog, or ask me about birds or insects or wildlife. This I don't mind at all, and often find quite charming, in total contrast to doting parents who feel the need to thrust their offspring at one with the demand it be held. I'd rather not, and it's not lack of familiarity -- I've toted my share of relatives infants, and can change a diaper and give a bottle at need with no qualms. I just don't find babies fascinating, which is probably rooted in my lack of interest in having any of my own.
I find most babies don't hit their actual cute stride until about 6 months when they've become all round, smile freely, and are taking real interest in the world around them. I'm actually also a kid person myself...babies just aren't that interesting. I find little kids totally fascinating because their thought processes are so different from ours and so they'll say things that we would never think of saying.
None of the people I know who have had babies recently are the type to push the babies on anyone. They know that people in general like to see the babies, so they bring them around the workplace for little 10-minute visits. And generally if you want to hold the baby then you need to ask them, not the other way around. So luckily I haven't had to deal with any pushy parents...everyone around me seems very well-adjusted, so I don't fault them for occasionally expressing parental pride. ^_~
Personally I wish I could have a kid that is already fully-formed and potty-trained! I can't see adoption really being an option, though, so I guess I have to go through the boring baby parts to get to the good kid parts.
But ZOMG what a cutie! Managing to already be cute at only a day old is a pretty good feat (since most newborns look kind of hideous to me), and she's already got that down pat!
...Although my bro's utterly devoted love and constant attention to her may even be cuter. XD
